A search for the term “social anxiety book” on Amazon gives you over 7000 hits, and we can assure you – they are not all good books that will help you overcome social anxiety. 

What makes a great social anxiety book?

In our opinion, there are a few factors that make a book good for overcoming social anxiety. First of all – it can not be too difficult to read. No complex language or overcomplicated models. After all, the most important thing is that the book is helpful for average people, not only for psychology professors. Secondly, it needs to be relatable! You, the reader, should recognize yourself in the problem descriptions and the examples. If you can relate to the problems, you can also hopefully relate to the solutions, which will make them easier to implement in your life.

Something we believe to be very effective in self-help books for social anxiety is workbooks. For example when the author makes you reflect on your own social anxiety by mixing theoretical information with fillable exercises.

How to choose a great book for you

First of all, you need to know yourself and your needs.  Why do you want to get a social anxiety book? To learn more about the disorder in general? Or to get hands-on tips on how you can feel better?
